General Eisenhower, supreme commander, WWII: One day people will so insist on a peaceful world that politicians will have to give it to them. For almost a century - ever since 1918 when the war to end wars ended - have revolutions, persecutions, genocides and oppressions marred the most destructive century ever experienced. The peace people hoped for and politicians claimed to have worked for is nowhere in sight. In spite of innumerable world conferences, summit meetings, assembly conventions, treaties etc., the promises and commitments made were never kept.

Is this really what the people of the world want? Are we willing to accept this world of death and destruction for ourselves and our children? Is this what we elect our politicians to devise? And, if not, why do we, the people of the much acclaimed democracies, allow this situation to persist? Are we too complacent to demand peace and progress for all people and to insist on governments, politicians and administrators who are independent of doctrines and directives, of financial and short-sighted national interests?

Are we reluctant to accept responsibility for ourselves, for our society and communities and for the parliaments and governments we elect? The choice is ours. We elect the politicians to serve us. Why do we allow them to act as our masters? Once future generations accept full responsibility for self, for their families, their communities and use their freedom to elect reliable and morally responsible politicians we would reach a higher level of civilisation than we have ever known.
